Use these scripts to help you manage overwhelming feelings after freeing yourself from the demands and rules of the narcissistic family system.
It’s normal to experience guilt and self-doubt after freeing yourself from the demands and rules of the narcissistic family system. If and when those thoughts arise, you can use these scripts to help you manage overwhelming feelings.

- I gave them more chances than I ever gave myself.
- It’s okay to protect myself, even when other people don’t understand.
- Their version of the story doesn’t have to be my truth.
- I don’t have to make myself uncomfortable just to keep other people comfortable.
- I’m allowed to want peace.
- I did the right thing in a painful situation.
- I miss who I wanted them to be, not who they actually are.
- I’m allowed to want a family that feels safe.
- I’ve already tried. Trying harder won’t change who they choose to be.
- Grief is normal. It doesn’t mean I made the wrong choice.
- If the relationship was truly safe and respectful, it wouldn’t have required this much sacrifice just to survive it.
