How to bring up family values with your therapist.

Every family needs to know their values. Values help families maintain a healthy structure, improve communication, make important decisions, and they give the family and its members a sense of belonging and identity.

Your therapist can help you identify your family values and assist you with living in alignment with those values. If you would like to bring up family values with your therapist, here are a few ways to get the conversation started:

  • “I want to work on my family values, but I’m not sure where to start.”
  • “My family doesn’t have a known set of values that we follow. I really want us to get on the same page.”
  • “I know family values are important, but I have no idea how to bring this up with my family.”
  • “I want to figure out what values are important to my family. Can you help me explore this?”
